Mask work exercise

23 July 2018

We did a mask-evaluation exercise whereby each group member brought their mask and we had to free-right about the mask at hand. However, out of the 6 group members, only 1 of them brought their mask (πŸ˜‚πŸ’€πŸ™†πŸΎβ€β™‚οΈ thanks Soso) and we wrote on it. Hers was a neutral mask.

This is what I (Thando) personally had to comment about it:

The mask is black, expressionless. It is of no emotion or assumption or behaviour. It is of non existent in the past nor the future. It is only existent in the present. The mask allows the actor to portray an action without being read by the audience. The audience only understands what the actor is doing, not necessarily how they are feeling. This mask creates mystique and leaves the audience guessing about its intentions before it is put to use by the performer. The mask is fairly strong and well-structured
